'I think with my experience at Clemson, playing in a lot of games and playing a lot of football, because I treated those games like I was a starter,' he said. 'When I went in, I wanted to do well, I wanted to keep the offense alive and score points.'

Lawrence's backup, Chase Brice, who also made the transition to Duke in February, echoed similar sentiments about the importance of experience in shaping a quarterback's mentality. 'I think playing in big games has definitely helped me prepare for these types of situations,' Brice said during the Zoom call. 'It'll be my first start since the state championship game back in the Georgia Dome my senior year.'

The camaraderie between Lawrence and Brice is undeniable, having shared countless moments on the sidelines together at Clemson. They would often work closely together, discussing strategies and reviewing game footage.

'I had to prepare like the starter...and Trevor was new as well, he had to kind of learn on the run,' Brice recalled. 'Also, when we were up, I got the opportunity to go in and play.'

Lawrence's experience has also taught him the importance of taking ownership of his role and position. After that state championship game, he felt compelled to take a more proactive approach to his preparation.

'After that game, I had to take a lot more ownership of my role and position,' Lawrence said matter-of-factly.
